About Emmaus
Emmaus is a Reformed Baptist church in Hemet, California. We are a community of Christ followers who love God, love one another, and serve the church, community, and nations, for the glory of God and for our joy.
Our hope is that you will make Emmaus your home and that you will begin to grow with us as we study the scriptures and, through the empowering of the Holy Spirit, live in a way that honors our great King.

Interested in becoming a member? Please join us for a four-week study in which we will make a case from the scriptures for local church membership and introduce the ministries, government, doctrines, and distinctive's of Emmaus Reformed Baptist Church.
Gospel Community Groups
Gospel Community Groups are small group Bible studies. They are designed to provide an opportunity for the members of Emmaus to build deeper relationships with one another. Groups meet throughout the week to discuss the sermons from the previous Sunday, to share life, and to pray.

Emmaus Essentials
Emmaus Essentials classes are currently offered online Sundays at 9AM. It is through our Emmaus Essentials (Sunday School) that we hope to experience an in depth study of the scriptures and Christian theology. These classes focus on the study of systematic theology, biblical theology, church history, and other topics practical to Christian living.

Multi-Generational Church Ministry
At Emmaus we believe that God has given parents, especially fathers the authority and responsibility to train and instruct children up in the Lord. In addition, we believe that God has ordained the gathering of all generations, young to old, to worship Him together in one place and at one time. Therefore, each and every Sunday our children worship the Lord alongside their parents and other members of God’s family.

- Q. What are the decrees of God?
- A. The decrees of God are His eternal plan based on the purpose of His will, by which, for His own glory, He has foreordained everything that happens.

- Bible Story: Genesis 37:1-28, 50:15-21; Out of the evil of their heart Joseph’s brothers sold Joseph into slavery but God intended and used it for His good.
Thoughts
- There are a few prerequisites to understanding the decrees of God. First, it is often unclear to see how God is going to use a tragedy or difficult time in someone’s life while it is taking place. Joseph saw nothing but complete evil and despair when his brothers sold him into slavery. It was only after the fact that Joseph saw the plan of God. Second, the dichotomy of God’s sovereignty and mans responsibility is something one will never completely understand. While we will never know in this lifetime how it all works the Bible strongly teaches that God is sovereign and has ordained things while still giving us the responsibility to act and response to the choices we face.
- The fact that God has a purpose and is sovereign over all should fill us with humility and confidence that God will finish the work He has started in our lives.
- More studying on this topic can be done by reading chapter 3 of the London Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689 as well as listing to lessons 8 and 9 from the Emmaus Essentials podcast under the same title.

- How does it make you feel that God is in control of everything?
- How do you think Joseph felt when is brother sold him into slavery? Did he know what God was going to do?
- If God is in control of everything why do bad things happen to good people?
- What has God promised to those who love Him? (Romans 8:28-29).
- What should be our attitude when difficult events happen in our lives?
- Ephesians 1 says God chose us for salvation before the earth was even created. Why did he do that?
- If God has chosen us for salvation and is in control of everything what should be our response?

- The Holy Spirit contains attributes that only God himself contains. The Holy Spirit gives eternal life (John 6:63), complete truth (John 14:17), omnipotent (Romans 8:11), omniscient (1 Corinthians 2:10-11), eternal (Hebrews 9:14), and there are many divine attributes attributed to the Holy Spirit.
- The Holy Spirit is referred as God in scripture. The most notable passage is found in Acts 5:3-4.
- The Holy Spirit (God) dwells in us and has been given to us as a helper, for our comfort, conviction of sin, to lead us in truth, and to seal us for salvation. With this truth we can have the confidence that God is working in our lives to make us more and more like Him.

If you are paying attention, you’ve probably noticed a theme in the catechism questions that we have been memorizing over the past few weeks. All of the questions are centered upon the means of grace.
Q: What are the outward and ordinary means whereby Christ communicates to us the benefits of redemption?
A: The outward and ordinary means whereby Christ communicates to us the benefits of redemption are His ordinances, especially the Word, Baptism, the Lord’s Supper and Prayer; all which are made effectual to the elect for salvation.
Q: What makes the word effective for salvation?
A: The spirit of God causes the reading and especially the preaching of the word to convince and convert sinners and to build them up in holiness and comfort through faith to salvation.
Q: How is the word to be read and heard in order to become effective for salvation?
A: For the word to become effective for salvation, we must pay careful attention to it, prepare ourselves, and pray for understanding. We must also receive it with faith and love, treasure it in our hearts, and practice it in our lives.
Q: How do Baptism and the Lord’s Supper become effectual means of salvation?
A: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper become effectual means of salvation, not from any virtue in them or in him that administers them, but only by the blessing of Christ and the working of His Spirit in them that by faith receive them.
