At Emmaus we believe that God has given parents, especially fathers the authority and responsibility to train and instruct children up in the Lord. In addition, we believe that God has ordained the gathering of all generations, young to old, to worship Him together in one place and at one time. Therefore, each and every Sunday our children worship the Lord alongside their parents and other members of God’s family.

The transition to Emmaus Christian Fellowship has involved some major changes for the members of our congregation and this has included students in our Youth Ministry. After leaving BFC we have since been meeting as the Jr. High group on Tuesday nights at the Zerebny household from 7-8:30pm and as a the Sr. High group at the Vanderschuit household on Wednesday nights from 7-8:30pm. It has been encouraging to see the commitment and flexibility of our students as we have learned to adjust to Youth outside, without projectors for worship through music, and sometimes sitting on the grass. However, as time has progressed we have realized that there are still changes that need to be made.
Starting Tuesday, July 19th both the Jr. High and Senior High Youth Ministries will be combining to meet on Tuesday nights at the Zerebny’s house from 7-8:30pm. One of the primary reasons for this switch is due to the fact that I will be leaving in the fall to start school at BIOLA University.
For the last two years I have been blessed to have the opportunity to work in Youth Ministry while attending MSJC, but the time has come for me to transfer to a four year university in order to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies. The university that I have chosen is BIOLA, located in La Mirada (1.5 hours outside of Hemet). As a result it would be difficult for me to serve as the Sr. High Director of Youth Ministry and perform well in school. So, starting in August I will no longer be in a leadership position with the Youth Ministry at Emmaus. Phil Anady will serve as the Director of Youth Ministry and oversee both Jr. and Sr. High on Tuesday nights. My goal is to stay in contact as much as possible while at school, attempting to come back to visit students on Tuesday or Sunday night at least once a month, as well as communicate with them through facebook and other medias. It is my hope to return to working in the Youth Ministry should my schedule in the future allow it.
This has not been an easy decision to make. I have enjoyed each moment with these students and I have been blessed to see many of them grow in their walk with Jesus Christ. I consider it a great blessing to be a part of the work that God has done in their lives. However, I am comforted in the fact that I know they are in good hands. Phil is an excellent teacher and a compassionate leader. I know that God will use Phil to continue the work that He has started in these students lives. I look forward to seeing and hearing what God is doing with the Youth Ministry at Emmaus Christian Fellowship in the years to come.

Sorry for any confusion. Also, Road to Emmaus will be at 3pm tomorrow at the church office. Hope to see you tomorrow!

There is a page on our site entitled Emmaus Essentials and as of today the page still says COMING SOON! That is because we have been in the process of developing this concept and deciding where it will fit in the life of the church. As you know, we desire to do a few things well here at Emmaus; we want to pursue depth and to avoid lifestyles that are busy and cluttered with things that distract from our relationship with God and others. That is not to say that we will not offer a lot of things here at Emmaus, but rather that what we do offer will be focused intensely on our mission to help people grow in their love for God, their love for one another, and their service within the church, community, and nations. We would like for everyone to attend Sunday worship with regularity, to be involved in a Gospel Community Group, and to use their spiritual gifts for the edification of the church and for the proclamation of the gospel. Really, it is about that simple.
That said, we also see a need to provide instruction that will help Christians to grow in their understanding of Christian faith. We have decided to offer a series of courses on a variety of core topics that we believe will help our people to love God and others more deeply.
The courses will typically run for 4-6 allowing you to “dive in” for a short time and still stay committed to your Gospel Community Group. For starters we will offer a course on the Doctrine of Salvation on Sundays from 10am – 12pm at the Church Office. The course will begin August 7 and run for 8 weeks until September 26, 2011. This will probably be the longest course that we offer, but 8 weeks is needed given the subject matter. We will be using Wayne Grudem’s “Making Sense of Salvation” as our text. You can either order the text yourself or request that we order it for you. Please check back on the Emmaus Essential page for more details coming soon.

As I was preparing today to lead the people of Emmaus in the Lord’s Supper for the first time this Sunday, I was struck with the seriousness and power of this ancient tradition.
To begin with, it’s overwhelming to contemplate the fact that this ordinance was established by Jesus Christ Himself and was handed down through the apostles, the early church fathers, all the way through church history, and to us today (in fact the Lord’s Supper has as its roots the Passover feast established after the Exodus). When we participate in the Lord’s Supper we are not only considering our deep connection with one another as individuals within the local church, but also our connection with the saints around the world and those who have gone before us. This is big! The Lord’s Supper, though it involves individual contemplation, forces us to consider our unity in Christ as the church of God both locally and universally.
As we take the wafer, which symbolizes the body of Christ that was broken for us, and the juice, which symbolizes the blood of Christ that was poured out for us, the symbolism reminds us that we are not islands unto ourselves. We are, as individuals, deeply connected to and dependent upon Christ; and because of our union with Christ, we are also deeply connected to one another. As believers, we have Christ in common; He unites us as we each send our roots deep down in to Him.
This is why it is so important that we search our hearts before we partake of the Lord’s Supper. We do not want to be guilty of hypocrisy when it comes to our relationship with God or our relationships with brothers and sisters in Christ. We must examine our hearts, confess sin, and do all that is in our power to be at peace with all men (1 Corinthians 11:27-30, Romans 12:18).
We can easily forget that when Christ instituted the Lord’s Supper it was in the context of the Passover meal. Jesus was sitting around the table in an intimate setting with His disciples as they shared a meal together. When the early Church participated in the Lord’s Supper, they most likely did so in the context of sharing in a full meal together. Today, most churches take five minutes out of their worship service to remember Christ by taking a wafer and juice while the congregation sits, not with their eyes on one another, but looking strait forward. Now I’m not saying the way we do things today is all wrong, but I do think we should be aware of the fact that the Lord’s Supper was originally observed in a context that was much more conducive to the sharing of life to life relationships.
As we take communion this Sunday we will do so in the same way that we always have, wafer and juice in hand we will confess sin, remember our Lord’s death, and look forward to His second coming. This is good and proper; but please add to your contemplation a deep awareness of the unity that we share in Christ Jesus. Who knows, perhaps we will change the way that we approach the Lord’s table in the future, but for now, let’s make sure that we approach with hearts that are right before God and one another.

I am pleased to announce that Emmaus Christian Fellowship will be hosting Angel Food Ministries as an outreach to the San Jacinto Valley. Glen and Anna Dalbey lead the ministry with a passion to help meet the physical and spiritual needs of those who are struggling financially. Folks are able to purchase quality food at good price through Angel Food to help make their money go further in other areas. The ministry is meant to help not only people in the community but also the church. Please feel free to order a box of food if you feel it would help with your budget.
At Emmaus, we would like to encourage each Gospel Community Group to find a family to bless with a box of food on a monthly basis. We will leave it to your group to identify someone in need (in the church or outside), order the box, and deliver it to the family. What a great opportunity to bless someone in Jesus’ name! We want for this ministry be more than just a food distribution service; we want to build relationships and to care for people on a personal level and we feel that this is a good way to accomplish that goal.
Glen and Anna would also like to request your assistance at the monthly distribution. We will be distributing from the church office on the last Saturday of every month from 9:00am-11:00am with set up starting at 8:00am. This will be a great way for the church to serve together and to get to know one another! Please contact Anna at 951-293-4145 with further questions.

Psalm 130 (ESV)
A SONG OF ASCENTS.
“1 Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD! 2 O Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my pleas for mercy! 3 If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? 4 But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared. 5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; 6 my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning. 7 O Israel, hope in the LORD! For with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with him is plentiful redemption. 8 And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities.”
You can probably imagine what it would feel like to be a watchmen on the night shift. It’s cold outside, everything in you wants to sleep, you are a little bit afraid, and you are straining to see and to listen for the enemy approaching. The night is long, and you want more than anything to see the eastern horizon begin to show signs of light.
The psalmist compares this kind of anticipation to the sense of hope that we should have in the Lord. With all of the difficulties of life pressing in, our hope needs to rest firmly in Christ. We must wait on Him, trust in Him, and live with a sense of anticipation, knowing that our God’s love is steadfast. I see in this passage a heart posture of complete dependence upon Christ; it is the kind of heart posture that every Christ follower needs to be marked by. I see a man on his knees and yet confident and sure. He is confident, not in himself, but in Lord. God, fill our churches with men and women like this!
