Memory Verse:

“Which is why I suffer as I do.  But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me.” – 2 Timothy 1:12, ESV

Doctrinal Standard: WSC #107

Q:  What does the conclusion of the Lord’s Prayer teach us?

A:  The conclusion of the Lord’s Prayer (for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever) teaches us to be encouraged only by God in our prayers and to praise Him by acknowledging that kingdom, power, and glory are His.  To show that we want to be heard and have confidence that we are, we say Amen.

Week of December 15th, 2013

“Submit yourselves therefore to God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7, ESV

Doctrinal Standard:  WSC #103-104

Q: For what do we pray in the third request?

A:  In the third request (your will be done on earth as it is in heaven) we pray that by His grace God would make us have the capability and the will to know, obey and submit to His will in everything, as the angels do in heaven.

Q: What do we pray in the fourth request?

A: In the fourth petition, which is, Give us this day our daily bread, we pray that of God’s free gift we may receive a competent portion of the good things of this life, and enjoy his blessing with them.

GCG Questions for Sermon on 12/08/2013

1. Have you ever had major differences with another Christian (friend, coworker, family member)? What happened? What was the outcome? How did you find unity in Christ? Share.

2. What does it mean to be clothed in Christ? Really think about it and support your answer.

3. On a scale of 1-10 (1 being far away and 10 being very close) where is your heart this week in walking with God. Share.

4. Do you ever struggle with seeing other believers as second class citizens in Christ? What causes you to see others this way and why? Share.

5. What can you do in your daily and current life to bring more unity to Christ’s church? Think about it and share.

Week of December 8th, 2013

“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!  You have set your glory above the heavens.” Psalm 8:1, ESV

Doctrinal Standard:

Q:  For what do we pray in the first request?

A:  In the first request (hallowed by your name) we pray that God will enable us and others to glorify Him in everything He uses to make Himself known and that He will work out everything in His own glory.

Q:  For what do we pray in the second request?

A: In the second request (your kingdom come) we pray that Satan’s kingdom may be destroyed, that the kingdom of grace may be advanced, with ourselves and others brought into and kept in it, and that the kingdom of glory may come quickly.

Doctrinal Standard:  WSC #100

Q:  What does the beginning of the Lord’s Prayer teach us?

A:  The beginning of the Lord’s Prayer (Our Father in heaven) teaches us to draw near to God with completely holy reverence and confidence, as children to a father who is able and ready to help us.  It also teaches that we should pray with and for others.

Week of November 24th, 2013

Doctrinal Standard:  WSC #98 & 99

Q: What is prayer?

A: Prayer is offering our desires to God in the name of Christ for things that agree with His will, confessing our sins, and thankfully recognizing His mercies.

Q: How does God direct us to pray?

A: The whole word of God, but especially the Lord’s prayer, which Christ taught His disciples, directs our prayers.

Week of November 17th, 2013

Q:  What is required to the worthy receiving of the Lord’s Supper?

A:  It is required of them that would worthily (that is, suitably) partake of the Lord’s Supper, that they examine themselves, of their knowledge to discern the Lord’s body; of their faith to feed upon Him; of their repentance, love and new obedience: lest, coming unworthily, they eat and drink judgment to themselves.
